9 Best Vegan Restaurants in Long Beach

As a SoCal native from the IE, Snoop Dogg, Vince Staples, and Long Beach Poly are the first things that come to mind when I think of Long Beach. After trying different restaurants that have come and gone in Long Beach for over a decade now, there are a few vegan restaurants that can now add to that list, including The Wild Chive and Nice Guys.

If you’re interested in what other spots I hit up for vegan food when I’m in LBC, keep reading!

1. The Wild Chive

Location: 2650 E Broadway, Long Beach, CA 90803
Phone number: 562-588-9421
Website: The Wild Chive website
Price range: $$$$$ (most expensive entree is $18)
My favorite menu item: Chick’n & French Toast

The Wild Chive is my favorite vegan spot in LBC! It’s a QPOC-owned and operated all-vegan brunch spot in Long Beach with menu items highlighting some Creole staples.

Since their whole thing is brunch, their menu features items like Chick’n & Waffles (or French Toast), a Monte Cristo sandwich, Iced Vietnamese Coffee made with their Cafe du Monde Cold Brew, French Quarter Beignets, Micheladas, and Prosecco Mimosas.

The vibe there is very open and chill. I’ve had to sit around and wait for a table because of how popular this spot is.

Luckily, it’s a few blocks from the water, so I usually just go for a quick stroll down to Ocean Blvd while I wait. If you’d rather just get in and get to the food, I’d recommend reserving a table in advance.

2. Seabirds Kitchen

Location: 975 E 4th St, Long Beach, CA 90802
Phone number: 562-317-5545
Website: Seabird Kitchen website
Price range: $$$$$ (most expensive entree is $18)
My favorite menu item: Grilled Mushroom Tacos

I used to live around the corner from the Seabirds Kitchen in Costa Mesa, which was dangerous. I couldn’t help but swing by every Saturday to get their Biscuit Bomb sandwich from their brunch menu.

Any time I was there outside of brunch hours, it had to be the Purple Taquitos or the Grilled Mushroom Tacos. A decade later, and I still have a weak spot for those dang Grilled Mushroom Tacos!

I personally don’t go to Seabirds Kitchen for the vibe, but they do have some interesting art in their outdoor dining courtyard. I go there for the food because there are so many delicious options to choose from and they remain consistent!

3. Plant Power Fast Food

Location: 5095 CA-1, Long Beach, CA 90804
Phone number: 562-343-5045
Website: Plant Power Fast Food website
Price range: $$$$$ (most expensive meal is $15)
My favorite menu item: ‘Bacon Egg & Cheese’ Muffin (with no spinach)

Plant Power Fast Food is my absolute FAVORITE place to get a breakfast sandwich! The Biscuit Bomb at Seabirds is good, but once I discovered the vegan Bacon, Egg, and Cheese muffin at Plant Power Fast Food in 2018, nothing could compare!

Judge the “Bacon Egg & Cheese’ Muffin from Plant Power Fast Food by its taste, not by my ugly picture of it!

Their breakfast burrito is also solid and I’ll dabble in their burgers and desserts from time to time. The fact that they have a drive-thru is an added bonus because that’s just something that vegans don’t often get to experience.

4. Veggie Grill / Mas Veggies Taqueria

Location: 6451 E Pacific Coast Hwy, Long Beach, CA 90803
Phone number: 562-430-4986
Website: Veggie Grill website
Price range: $$$$$ (most expensive meal is $23)
My favorite menu item: Southwestern Nachos (sub fries for chips)

For all of the old-school US-based vegabonds out there, Veggie Grill is just a given. With locations across California, Massachusetts, New York, Oregon, and Washington, they are basically the closest thing we vegans have to a national chain restaurant, besides Loving Hut.

Picture of the Southwestern Nachos served on fries instead of chips from Veggie Grill, one of my favorite vegan restaurants in Long Beach. The fries are topped with vegan cheese, southwestern sauce, black beans, pico de gallo, red chilis, guacamole, and cilanr=tro
The massive Southwestern Nachos from Veggie Grill served on fries instead of chips are worth the little upcharge of swapping in the fries!

Therefore, I typically don’t include Veggie Grill in my lists of vegan restaurants. However, this specific location is my favorite. I used to drive past multiple locations on my drive up from OC just to eat at this Long Beach branch. Don’t ask me why. The food just hit different there!

Picture of the BLT Croissant from Veggie Grill, one of my favorite vegan restaurants in Long Beach. The croissant sandwich is stuffed with lettuce, tomato, crispy vegan bacon, and vegan mayo. Croissant is light and flaky with many visible layers
I was pleasantly surprised by the vegan BLT croissant at Veggie Grill!

More recently, they’ve added on a shared sister kitchen, Mas Veggies Taqueria, which features more Mexican food options. Their menu includes items like bowls, tacos, nachos, and burritos.

5. Nice Burger

Location: 2620 Long Beach Blvd suite C, Long Beach, CA 90806
Phone number: 562-362-6477
Website: Nice Burger website
Price range: $$$$$ (most expensive entree is $18)
My favorite menu item: Chicken Tenders with honey mustard (Bee-Nice sauce)

The name Nice Burger is very fitting. When I bit into the Jr. Nice Burger, I said in my head “hm… this is nice!”. The burger didn’t top my favorite burger from nomoo (check out my 17 Best Vegan Restaurants in Los Angeles post for more details), but it was still pretty darn good and definitely looks JUST like an In-n-Out cheeseburger!

Doesn’t this Jr. Nice Burger look just like a burger from In-n-Out?! Or am I trippin?!

Their menu consists of vegan burgers, chicken sandwiches, breakfast sandwiches, sides, and desserts.

The vegan Chicken Tenders from Nice Guys have great texture on the inside!

My favorite part of the meal though was the Chicken Tenders. They use the Gardein brand tenders, which have the best vegan chicken texture in my opinion. They coat them in their own breading, which is nice and crunchy. Could have used a little more seasoning, but still “nice” vegan chicken tenders!

The Jr. Nice burger and a 3 piece order of tenders because I wanted to try everything on the menu, but my little belly can only do so much!

6. Morning Nights

Location: 4150 McGowen St Unit 1, Long Beach, CA 90808
Phone number: 562-421-7777
Website: Morning Nights website
Price range: $$$$$ (most expensive item is $14, but may take a few items to get full)
My favorite menu item: Dan Dan Noodles

Morning Nights is located inside the LBX hangar food hall. It’s an all-vegan dim dum restaurant that also serves cocktails. There’s lots of food in there with some vegan options at some of the other food stalls. However, Morning Nights was the only all vegan stand as of when I visited.

If only my handwriting were so neat…

I tried the Dan Dan Noodles which are noodles tossed in a sesame Sichuan sauce. When I ordered, I was told the noodles would be spicy, but they weren’t… They were still good though!

I was looking forward to a true dim sum experience that would allow me to try a whole bunch of different items, but those vegan dim sum items came with some whole meal prices. The portions also seemed a bit large for dim sum, so I’d recommend bringing a friend or two if you’re trying to run through their whole list of options.

7. Vegan Castle

Location: 2400 Santa Fe Ave, Long Beach, CA 90810
Phone number: 562-726-1722
Website: Vegan Castle Instagram
Price range: $$$$$ (most expensive roll is $15, but may take a few items to get full)
My favorite menu item: Volcano Roll

Vegan sushi and I have a very “blah” relationship. Most vegan sushi is very boring to me, yet pricey, so I shouldn’t be out here just trying anyone’s vegan sushi restaurant. However, I decided to give Vegan Castle a go since it is the only vegan sushi spot in LBC.

I asked for their 3 most popular rolls and decided to order the spiciest one from that list, the Volcano Roll. The Volcano Roll is a deep-fried roll filled with vegan shrimp, spicy tuna, jalapeno, cucumber, and avocado and drizzled with sriracha, spicy mayo, and vegan eel sauce.

Maybe one day I’ll learn how to take an impressive photo of sushi, but for now, there’s this picture of the Volcano Roll from Vegan Castle

I honestly found the sushi to be very “blah”, as anticipated, but I appreciated the opportunity to get some vegan rolls in the heart of Long Beach. The best vegan sushi I’ve ever had was at a vegan sushi restaurant in Honolulu, so check out my post if you’re looking to dive into the experience.

9 Best Vegan Restaurants in Long Beach – Desserts

8. Hug Life

Location: 2707 E 4th St, Long Beach, CA 90814
Phone number: 562-343-5991
Website: Hug Life website
Price range: $$$$$ (most expensive dessert is $11)
My favorite menu item: Snickerz Bar milkshake

I can be very particular about my vegan ice cream because I’m not that big of an ice cream fan to begin with. Most of my favorite vegan ice creams come from ice cream shops that only have a few vegan options. Hug Life, however, is an all-vegan ice cream shop that allows you to go buck wild and order whatever your heart desires on the menu!

The menu and ice cream freezer at Hug Life. Be sure to try samples of the ice cream before making your decision!

The staff asks if you have any dietary restrictions or allergies and their freezer is labeled to show some major allergens. I especially appreciate their attention to allergens as the god mom of a kid that is allergic to dairy, peanuts, gluten, etc.

After trying two of their ice creams, I just don’t feel that their ice cream is as creamy as I typically like. But go head and throw some of that ice cream in a shake and blend it up… can’t tell the difference! I had the Snickerz Bar milkshake, and although it didn’t truly taste like a snickers bar to me, it was bomb!

9. Cinnaholic

Location: 5305 2nd St Suite 103, Long Beach, CA 90803
Phone number: 562-588-9297
Website: Cinnaholic website
Price range: $$$$$ (most expensive roll ~$8)
My favorite menu item: Old Skool Roll

Not only is Cinnaholic always a solid vegan dessert choice, but they’re located all over the country! I’m a huge fan of the Old Skool roll when I just want something simple and sweet. I occasionally go for the cookie monster though when I want some cookie dough in my life!
